Abt Associates is recruiting a Zonal/Regional COVID-19 Vaccine Coordinator (m/f), to be based in Otjiwarongo, Namibia.
Description
  • The Zonal COVID-19 Vaccine Coordinator, based in Otjiwarongo, will plan and oversee community engagement and mapping of the implementation of COVID 19 vaccine distribution in several districts under the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) leadership. The coordinator will oversee a team of community workers, leading and coordinating community education on COVID-19 vaccines in seven regions (Kunene, Otjozondjupa, Erongo, Omaheke, Khomas, Hardap, and Karas regions). To ensure the achievement of the district and regional vaccination targets, teams will conduct community engagement activities closely with schools. Activities may include community presentations and social media engagement. This position will be based in Otjiwarongo
Duties
Leadership
  • Provide leadership to all community vaccination-related staff at the district level (mobilizers, volunteers, etc.)
  • Liaise with the various MoHSS departments (e.g., school health programmers and outreach services) and other partners in the field of social mobilization in the region
  • Liaise with head teachers, community leaders, coaches, and other critical opinion-holders on VMMC
  • Coordinate with community mobilizing partners to ensure constant mobilization of districts, schools, and workplaces to ensure clients know where and when to get the COVID-19 vaccine
Demand Creation
  • Contribute to the development and distribution of IEC material
  • Compile and implement strategies for engaging different audiences on COVID-19 vaccination
  • Provide demand creation services in accordance with the MoHSS MoHSS communication Guidance
  • Assist with the planning, implementing, and monitoring of COVID-19 demand creation activities in the assigned region(s)
  • Maintain a network of VMMC community champions who assist in demand creation
  • Provide regular feedback to National Demand Creation Manager and SAFE Management Team on recruitment and participant response, including barriers to health service uptake
  • Strategically plan and conduct community mapping and demographic profiling to ensure maximum service uptake
  • Ensure that mobilization records are maintained thoroughly and accurately and assist in providing relevant reports when required
  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation tasks for COVID-19 activities, including collecting, collating, and reviewing data as needed
  • Mentor and train other team members regarding best practices, ethics, and community health work demand creation strategy
  • Ensure that ethical demand creation practices are always followed
  • Participate in local activities and meetings to promote COVID-19 vaccines and share information
  • Assist in documenting best practices, experiences and lessons learned and share them with the National COVID-19 Vaccination Manager
  • Any other reasonable role or responsibility required in the fulfilment of key implementing organization’s mission
Requisites
  • Recognized degree in Social or Community Health Services
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in development/community work
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexibility to travel within the region
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to create and set goals inclusive of the group's diverse needs and motivates individual team members
  • Ability to analyze reports and develop strategies and responses based on data
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate results and take steps to increase efficiency
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to resolve conflict and address conflicting demands on resources
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • In addition to English, preferably speaks at least one local language
  • Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma + Four years of relevant experience, or Associates Degree +
  • Two years of relevant experience
