Bank Windhoek is recruiting a Treasury Accountant, to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Duties
- Responsible for the financial recognition, measurement, and reporting of financial instruments and FX transactions in terms of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in close liaison with Treasury Front Office, Middle Office, and Back Office as well as performing an oversight over the treasury reconciliation process
- Key Performance Areas (KPA’s):
- Responsible for oversight of the Treasury accounting module:
- Monitor the daily foreign exchange profit/loss and follow up and resolve any significant fluctuations
- Perform a detailed analysis of underlying investments/liabilities relating to the revaluation FX profit/loss and position changes – when significant foreign exchange profit or losses are recorded
- Perform all the Treasury month-end processes and procedures on FM Canvas / SAP in liaison with Treasury front office, Treasury middle, Treasury back-office, and IBS/Swift team
- Review and report on monthly branch income statements to the Head of Treasury after review
- Provide guidance/supporting explanations to Management Accounting on monthly financial treasury performance (on investments, trading and other financial instruments) for EMT write-up and quarterly board submissions
- Address and resolve adhoc queries on treasury financial accounting: from treasury front office (positions), middle office (BoN reporting), back-office (clearing, reconciliations, posting corrections etc.), and financial treasury reports
- Liaise with FM Canvas support team on FM Canvas queries and valuations, calculations, account assignments, configuration changes, FM Canvas processes for newly introduced products
- Liaise with FM Canvas support team in case of FM Canvas month-end errors and “bug fixes”
- Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for new business requirements/changes in business requirements in FM Canvas module and liase with Treasury back-office/middle office/ front office teams and FM canvas
- Support team and SAP Support team
- Ensure compliance to IFRS on new business requirements (e.g. new products) and liaise with FM Canvas
- Support on set-up of new products with configuration on the technical side (e.g. General Ledger account set-up)
- Ensure that current products are recognised, measured, and reported in terms of IFRS
- Assist with the annual and interim external audits for Financial Accounting Treasury (annual report and notes, income statement and balance sheet, GL fluctuations, etc.)
- Assess the financial impact in terms of IFRS of new investment/trading treasury products to be introduced and reporting of such financial impact to Treasury and Finance
- Maintain the Bank Windhoek chart of accounts for newly created Treasury GL accounts (Income and Balance sheet side) in terms of the GL maintenance policy
- Maintain and update the GL descriptions and controls (reconciliations) for Treasury GLs
- Detailed review of monthly Treasury Back-office GL reconciliations and Treasury Foreign Currency Housebank reconciliations after sign-off by Manager: International Operations. Subsequent monthly summary reporting to
- Financial Manager (update on reconciliations) and reconciliations hand-over to Finance: Manager
- Reconciliations and Recon Specialist: Branches, Finance
Requisites
- Experience/Knowledge & Skills:
- 5 years’ experience in financial accounting and preferably treasury background
- Knowledge of the accounting systems and processing activities
- Sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards
- Treasury knowledge
- Must have an aptitude for detail and critical analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency in English
- Computer literacy (Word and advanced knowledge of Excel spreadsheets)
- Qualification: Chartered Accountant qualification
