Hangana Abalone is recruiting a Supervisor Processing (m/f), to be based in Lüderitz, Namibia.
Description
- Responsible for the processing team, plant, and day-to-day operations of all abalone processing (Canned, Dried, Frozen and Live) within HACCP standards & overall quality assurance of the product
Duties
Processing Plant Management
- Responsible for preventative maintenance of the processing plant and to report all machine faults to the Factory Manager and Technical department
- Prepare processing machinery by completing machinery preventative maintenance & machine start up procedures and checklists on relevant machinery and equipment before processing commences
- Procure all relevant packaging material & prepare product and packaging material before processing starts
- Supervise preparation and sorting of abalone & stock movements during the preparation and sorting of abalone and packaging material
- Supervise the Drying, Canning & Frozen processing process when receiving, shucking, trimming, washing, salting, cooking, steaming, drying, canning or IQF freezing, and grading until final product is ready for sealing, labelling, and packaging
- Ensure that final product is of the required quality meeting all quality standards required by the client and/or for export
- Maintain the HACCP status of the facility by adhering to all quality control points and standards as specified by the company and regulatory authorities
- Responsible for the planning the production output and liaising with the production department on the correct volumes and sizes that needs to be processed
Food Safety Management
- Conduct facility, equipment and product inspections and verification as per inspection plan
- Verify accuracy and correct operation of measuring and monitoring equipment
- Scrutinize records submitted by direct reports and verify correctness and completeness of the records
- Manage the control of non-conforming materials and products
Grading
- Responsible for the grading of all abalone
- Ensure batches are split and stocked correctly per box per size class
- Grade any other stock, as requested by management
- Ensure that final product is correctly packed and labelled for export
Stock control
- Supervise stock movements during the preparation and sorting of abalone and packaging material
- Ensure that subordinates keep control of different batches, and to ensure that batches do not mix
- Updates records (duplicate books) on transfer in and out of all abalone
Grading Scales
- Responsible for the correct handling & preventative maintenance of grading scales at all times. Ensure that subordinates are following correct procedures when handling grading scales
- Responsible for the daily running of the grading scales and the completion of the checklists regarding the scales
- Ensure all scales are calibrated and checked before each shift
- Applies health and safety standards in the area of responsibility
- Ensures security measures in areas of responsibility are being adhered to
Administration
- Attend required meetings and action/communicate instructions
- Prepares work reports, progress reports and time sheets
- Assist management with relevant leave planning
- Assist with budget compilations for the areas of responsibility
Human Capital Management
- Assists with the recruitment and selection of processing department
- Enforces discipline, policies and procedures & reports and handles (where applicable) personnel offences
- Facilitates personal and subordinate on the job training
- Supervises staff including the approval of leave and time reports. Ensure accurate timekeeping for all employees
- Any other duties as and when required
Requisites
- Grade 12 with A/B/C/1/2/3 symbols in biology, mathematics, and English
- Diploma in food science/microbiology/fishery sciences/production management/plant & animal sciences will be an advantage, with 3-5 years relevant experience in a similar environment, with at least 2 years
- Supervisory experience
- Proficient in MS Office
- Valid Code BE driver's license
