Swakop Uranium is recruiting a Senior Officer: Emergency (m/f), to be based in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Duties
- To coordinate all activities and processes related to the implementation of the fire prevention and management and emergency response plan and to conduct maintenance on firefighting equipment as per applicable policies, procedures, regulations and laws
- Key Performance Areas:
- Draft, review and co-ordinate a fire prevention and emergency response plan
- Conducting emergency crisis drills
- Liaise closely with line management, by providing expert advice on fire protection measures and modifications to buildings and plants, in order to eliminate fire hazards
- Confirm the fire-related standards according to NOSA Safety Standards
- Maintain and disseminate up to date information and advise on the implementation of corrective action
- Plan and provide fire prevention and emergency/response training to employees
- Schedule and conduct inspections of firefighting equipment and ensure an effective service and maintenance programme is in place
- Conduct firefighting equipment maintenance and ensure that calibrations are done in accordance with NFPA standards and ensure the availability of effective firefighting equipment
- Evaluate requirements and process special purchase orders for all firefighting equipment for Company operations
- Provide input to sectional budget and submits reports of loss from fires and other emergencies
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and submit recommendations and implement remedial action
- Identify and eliminate safety and health hazards/risks
- Conduct risk assessments and draft and review procedures and control systems to mitigate fire/emergency risks
- Ensure compliance to all emergency standards
Requisites
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science/Fire Safety Management/Emergency Management/Disaster/Risk Management
- 5 years’ experience in firefighting and emergency response in a mining environment
- Experience in extrication, rope rescue and HAZMAT
- Valid Code C Driver’s License
