Rössing Uranium is recruiting a Senior Metallurgist, to be based in Arandis, Namibia.
Description
  • An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Metallurgist on a 2-year fixed term contract in the Processing Operations department
  • Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy & CPC
  • The primary purpose of this role is to initiate and lead metallurgical improvement programs, support the development of Metallurgists, and ensure timely distribution of essential reports and accurate metallurgical accounting within the plant operations
Duties
  • Maintaining HSE standards
  • Providing technical advice and counsel to the metallurgical section
  • Coordinating and planning activities on processing major consumables to ensure timely delivery
  • Providing technical input into the metallurgical operating philosophy of the Rossing processing plant by comparing and revising standard operating procedures with area metallurgists
  • Providing technical input into the design of new or improved processing equipment as conclusions are drawn from test work
  • Providing advice with regards to improvement of long-term operational processes to achieve and exceed planned efficiency
  • Attending to adhoc requests from Metallurgical Superintendent for metallurgical process analysis, problem solving, idea generation and troubleshooting
  • Working constructively with other functions or departments
  • Developing and maintaining an effective team by participating in the development of CPC Controllers and Metallurgists
  • Monitoring s sectional expenditure monthly and reviews on a quarterly basis
  • Planning, managing, and coordinating implementation of projects assigned by the Metallurgy Superintendent by establishing a work plan, budgetary and staffing requirements for the project
Requisites
  • Minimum Requirements of the role:
  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • A recognized Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Engineering Degree/Bachelor of Technology in Chemical/Metallurgical/Mineral Processing (NQF Level 7/8)
  • OR
  • A MSc in Process Control, Minerals Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy or Mineral Processing Engineering would be an added advantage
  • Bachelor / BEng / BTech degree: A minimum of Five (5) years working experience as a Metallurgist/ Chemical Engineer in a hydrometallurgical
  • processing plant environment & registration as professional engineer
  • National Diploma: A minimum of Seven (7) years working experience as a Metallurgist/ Chemical Engineer in a hydrometallurgical processing plant processing environment
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence
  • A police certificate of conduct not older than six months is required. A record will not automatically disqualify candidates
  • Required Competencies and Skills:
  • Experience in Honeywell process control systems would be an added advantage
  • Experience with process modelling software (e.g. SysCAD etc.) would be an added advantage
  • Computer skills {MS Office (PowerPoint and Excel), SAP and Specialized Packages / Systems}
