Swakop Uranium is recruiting a Senior Geologist: Evaluation (Swakopmund) (m/f), to be based in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Description
- To co-ordinate the geological evaluation activities to provide technical support and deliver services such as drilling and sampling reviews, QA/QC analysis, geological modelling and resource estimates, reviews, preliminary assessments, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies
Duties
- Monitor and control the various activities related to resource modeling, estimation and evaluation in accordance with policies, procedures, resources, control standards, measures and programmes
- Apply best practice resource modeling, estimation, evaluation and associated database strategies, standards, systems and monitoring mechanisms at the various resource and exploration sites
- Identify, design and implement improvements to systems and internal controls
- Plan and co-ordinate geological, geochemical, or geophysical field studies or surveys, sample collection, or drilling and testing programmes used to collect data for mineral resource modeling and evaluation
- Implement and monitor the use of appropriate computer-based geological and geo-statistical modeling software
- Support the technical integration of variable datasets to ensure mineral resource modeling and evaluation in accordance to best practices
- Discuss and co-ordinate the ore evaluation/estimation results with the mine planner and mining operations
- Perform regular inspections of the working areas
- Implement effective quality control, critical review and adjust controls when necessary for corrective action at the various mineral resource evaluation drilling and sampling sites
- Maintain data and meta-data on an ongoing basis
- Generate and update geological models from available data
- Prepare and present geological models and estimates of relevant mineral resource and exploration targets
- Implement the monitoring, incident and document control systems and databases
- Monitor the expenditure of resource evaluation projects such as resource and exploration drilling, sample analysis and downhole probing to ensure adherence to the allocated budget
Requisites
- BSc. Honours Degree in Geology or similar qualification in Geology
- 5 years’ experience in geological resource modelling, evaluation and estimation environment of which 2 years should be at supervisory level
- Open pit mine experience will be an added advantage
- Registration with SACNASP or similar professional body will be an added advantage
- Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License
- 4x4 driving know-how an added advantage
