Swakop Uranium is recruiting a Senior Engineering: Mining Planning (m/f), to be based in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Description
- To coordinate and engage diversified portfolios of planning, long term fleet management projects and related production infrastructures to aid the production processes in the Open Pit in order to achieve safe and efficient excavation
Duties
- Coordinate and monitor open pit planning processes and associated activities
- Propose alternative mining methods for mining to ensure equipment efficiencies and plan compliance, for the medium & long term viability of the mine
- Investigate problems and improve production efficiencies
- Identify, design and implement best mining practices
- Design & plan mining configurations for optimum ore recovery, safety and efficient loading and hauling
- Identify and implement relevant software systems and carry out simulations, analyze results and implement designs based on these
- Develop and initiate continuous improvement projects to achieve mining and processing efficiency
- Identify opportunity for continual pit optimization and ensure that loading and hauling operations are designed, planned and carried out in a safe manner and that the operation objectives are achieved on time within budget, and without any adverse effect on the environment
- Ensure production program amendments and dispensations to policy are prepared on schedule and that adequate risk assessments are conducted
- Ensure that all production operations are planned and performed in compliance with the approved Swakop
- Uranium Corporate Policies, following all operational procedures described in the Loading & Hauling Program
- Coordinate and monitor fleet efficiencies through Modular systems (Dispatch / ProVision / MineCare) to ensure that equipment is being utilized and operated at targeted efficiencies
- Active involvement with the production teams and improvement projects by continuously monitoring, advising, developing and implementing best and most effective planning practices for quality assurance and compliance
- Identify operational processes requiring investigation, formulate project plans and recommendations
- Draft and implement procedures in order to optimize the utilization and performance of production activities in order to ensure plan compliance, achieve production targets and contribute towards the profitability of the company
- Actively participate in the design and implementation of monthly, quarterly and annual mine plans
- Initiate and implement continuous efforts to improve planning performance by well-researched applications of new tools and techniques
- Capture and analyze production results and prepare relevant reports accordingly, i.e. all relevant data to allow the preparation of plan and design and produce technical reports, and monthly departmental reports
- Guide Engineers in the preparation of daily and weekly production review reports and plans
- Participate in drafting the annual load & haul and drilling section budgets
- Investigate and recommend the types of earthmoving equipment to be used in order to optimize the operation on the mine
- Carry out the medium and long term production equipment forecasts, for input into determining capital requirements
- Prepare monthly production review reports (Av%, UoA%, – top 5 delays, standby hours & breakdowns) and hold periodic communication meetings with staff during monthly cycle with appropriate minutes to continuously highlight areas of improvement
Requisites
- BSc/BTech Degree in Mining Engineering
- 5 years mining experience in an open pit mining environment of which 2 years should have been in a Senior capacity
- Production management & planning experience is a distinct advantage
- Experience in working with 3D planning software (Datamine OP/Surpac mineshed etc.)
- Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License
