Swakop Uranium is recruiting a Senior Chemist, to be based in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Description
- The position is responsible for coordinating laboratory processes in order to ensure the smooth, effective, efficient and reliable running of the laboratory
Duties
- Ensure that shift/daily production, performance, quality and cost targets are met according to the business objectives
- Coordinate shift handover properly between the oncoming shift and the current shift
- Coordinate all sample receiving activities on shift and ensure that the samples are completed and reported according to the set operating procedures and quality standards
- Review and validate laboratory results and ensure the quality standards are met prior to results reporting
- Confirm optimum utilization of laboratory IT hardware and software, equipment, instruments and people
- Identify production problem areas and initiate corrective, preventive measures and modifications
- Conduct daily and monthly inspections according to schedule
- Ensure instrument and equipment availability
- Develop new analytical techniques to optimize and improve existing methods
- Ensure that the Process Schedulers are logging active sampling points and transferring instrument data into LIMS
- Analyze LIMS shift data and issue reports on shift performance
- Ensure that dashboard statuses are updating as required and ensure results are being sent to external systems
- Manage all lockout activities on shift and ensure that equipment is locked out according to the Lockout and Isolation Procedure
- Develop laboratory inspection schedules for all sections under area of responsibility
- Monitor stock levels and ensure orders are placed with SCM
Requisites
- Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects
- B Tech in Analytical Chemistry or BSc Degree in Chemistry
- 5 years working experience in a mining/ chemical/ metallurgical/ laboratory environment of which 2 years should have been in a senior capacity
- Sound Knowledge of:
- Laboratory Instrument Operations
- LIMS Operation
- Chemical Analysis Techniques
- Wet chemical and instrumental inorganic analysis
- Use of statistical certification and validation techniques
- Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License
