Dundee Precious Metals is recruiting a Rigger, to be based in Tsumeb, Namibia.
Description
- The incumbent will report to the Supervisor: Cranes and Services
Duties
- Legal, safety, health and environmental compliance as well as promoting a safety culture in the area of responsibility
- Lead by example through living the company’s purpose and values
- Conduct rigging with mobile cranes, overhead cranes, and chain blocks lever hoists, tifos, slings, shackles and guide ropes and other lifting tackle
- Compile daily lift planning schedule to indicate required equipment
- Assist process and Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) maintenance teams with doing specialized heavy and complex lifts
- Guide and coordinate crane operators in moving objects and depositing them in the correct location
- Ensure all lifting tackle are inspected quarterly and that the correct color coding is applied to lifting tackle for the units to be safe for use
- Conduct daily inspections to identify malfunctions, defects and unsafe conditions on lifting machinery and tackle
- Ensure correct positioning and assist with proper securing of loads on trucks and/or low beds before travel commence
- Operate the crane mounted truck /crane truck when required
- Assist with loading and coordinating abnormal loads
- Perform load test on all lifting equipment and machinery
- Remove and replace ropes on cranes and winches
- Carry out load test on all lifting machinery
- Complete inspection registers on all lifting machinery and lifting tackle as required
- Identify hazards and implement controls to minimize risks
- Participate in lifting equipment or rigging training when required
- Perform standby or week-end duties as required
- Conduct or participate in a rigging study when required
- Perform ad hoc related duties as assigned by Foreman
Requisites
- Grade 12 with a minimum of 23 points
- Minimum N3 certificate
- Rigging Level 3 Trade certificate
- Mobile crane certification
- Truck-mounted crane certification
- Minimum 3 years relevant rigging experience in mining and plant environments
- Experience in the operation of a mobile crane with a capacity of 90 tons and above
- Experience in Smelters, Mills and Concentrators will be an added advantage
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suites, with strong Excel skills)
- A valid code C1 driver license, code CE, will be an added advantage
