Telecom is recruiting a Regional Planner: Copper/Fibre Cabling and Structured Cabling, in Windhoek, Keetmanshoop and Swakopmund, Namibia.
Description
- The purpose of this position is to plan network infrastructure in line with specific requirements and within a framework of acceptable technical specifications and engineering standards in the region
- These specifications and standards are more specific to copper cabling, fibre cabling, structured cabling planning, design and engineering
- Regular reporting to the Engineer: Fibre and Copper and Section Engineer: Passive Infrastructure regarding all findings, developments and activities in the region

Duties
- Develops regional plans in consultation and guidance from the Engineer: Fibre and Copper and Section Engineer: Passive Infrastructure
- Handover site to contractors, supervise contractors and regular site visit
- Maintain and Update Copper/Fibre Cabling records in the region
- Planning for Copper/Fibre Cabling in the region
- Ensure all related design are compliant to SLAs/OLAs
- Provide detailed input in the development of High/Low Level design documentation drawings to Engineers: Fibre & Copper and Section Engineer: Passive Infrastructure
- Provide support with proof-of-concept testing and ATPs (plans/procedures/criteria
- Provide input for implementation/cutover plans
- Assist Engineer: Fibre and Copper with site surveys in the region for new developments, expansions, and other when required
- Prepares working drawings, schematic diagrams, topographic maps, procure way leaves plans, project schedules and bill of quantities in the region
- Provide inputs for the development of technical standards and specifications
- Provide input for and updates into the development of a technical/IT master plan (including matching to blueprint/ business plan)
- Cooperative with Engineer: Fibre and Copper for specialized needs (Copper and Fibre)
- Prepares monthly progress reports and submits it to the Engineer: Fibre and Copper and Section Engineer: Passive Infrastructure
- Ensure that all actions and results are documented in the relevant system(s)/library (GIS and TN-Server)
- Adherence to all relevant company policies
Requisites
- National Diploma (Engineering) in telecommunication with at least 5 years’ experience
- OR
- N6 National Technical Diploma in telecommunication with at least 5 years’ experience; AND Five (5) years relevant work experience in telecommunication network environment related to passive infrastructure, especially Copper/ Fibre Cabling e.g. Experience in project management is a strong recommendation
- A Minimum Code BE Driver’s Licence
- Registration as an engineering technician (at the local engineering council) will be an added advantage
- Key Knowledge Required:
- Very good knowledge of copper cabling, fibre cabling and structured cabling access networks and systems
- Knowledge of Geo-Information Technology
- Knowledge of the Technology master plan
- Knowledge of master plan
- Knowledge of database design
- Knowledge of site security systems and management
- Knowledge of EMS and NMS
- Very good knowledge of access networks
- Very good knowledge of Telco infrastructures including underlying network building blocks, including passive infrastructure building blocks
- Very good knowledge of TN Standards, specifications, procedures, guidelines, products, services and technology landscape
- Knowledge of the competitor’s services, products, network and technology landscape
- Good knowledge of international standards (ITU, ISO, ITUT, SANS, IETF, IEEE. ETSI, ITIL etc.)
- Good knowledge of industry norms and specifications
- Knowledge of security aspects/management
- Knowledge of security standards/architectures/mechanisms/elements
- Knowledge of SLA/OLA Management
- Good ability to understand complex environments and interrelations
