Swakop Uranium is recruiting an Officer: Occupational Hygiene, in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Description
- Assess and execute occupational hygiene activities through the implementation of the Occupational Health (OH) programmes and management plan to ensure compliance to legal requirements and other relevant standards
Duties
- Execute Occupational Health Risk Assessment
- Ensure that the Hierarchy of control is followed and adhered to
- Monitor stressors such as dust, noise, VOC’s, Diesel Particulates, indoor air Quality, compressed air, chemicals, welding fumes, heat stress or other as per OH Monitoring Plan
- Collect and dispatch samples for external analysis and liaise with analytical laboratories for analysis and evaluation of results
- Carry out initial evaluation of potentially hazardous areas; prescribe working conditions and protective equipment required
- Conduct inspections and identify non-compliance with Company Occupational Health standards and recommend corrective action
- Record and update Occupational Health monitoring results on relevant database and spreadsheets
- Ensure that all procedures are current and filed accordingly
- Compile and maintain an instrument register to ensure calibration and service schedules are adhered to and redundant instruments are removed
- Ensure all hygiene monitoring equipment and instruments are in a good operating condition by checking and calibrating before and after use
Requisites
- Grade 12 with 20 points over 5 subjects and a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health/Hygiene/ Environmental Health
- 3 years’ experience in Occupational Health/Hygiene/Environmental Health
- Experience in within the mining industry will be an added advantage
- Experience in application of occupational hygiene principles
- Registration as an Assistant with Southern African Institute for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) will be added advantage
- Registration with Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA) will be an added advantage
- Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License
