Swakop Uranium is recruiting a Metallurgist, to be based in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Description
  • To assist with effective start-up activities of plant/process optimization and provide technical support to Swakop Uranium’s (SU) extensive plant operations
  • The position will also be responsible for achieving safe, low-cost, optimal availability, performance of resources and efficient plant operations
Duties
  • Monitor, analyse and investigate the technical performance of process in area
  • Ensure metallurgical duties and aspect of the section are carried out as required and technically optimized with production output
  • Ensure optimization and utilization of physical assets in section
  • Execute the plant processing schedules for the area of responsibility
  • Attend to emergency technical upsets in the plant
  • Recommend improvements to existing systems to achieve sectional production targets
  • Conduct technical investigations and tests to enhance and optimize the processes in the area of responsibility
  • Analyse process and production results and trends and submit reports for further scrutiny
  • Conduct root-cause-analysis of process upsets
  • Determine, verify and account for recovery of product output by using Metallurgical Accounting methodologies
  • Provide a Metallurgical sampling, testing, calibration and process control service
  • Conduct reliable and active metallurgical process analysis, accounting and test work service
  • Perform any related metallurgical test work and / or projects as may be required
  • Prepare and analyse samples to provide accurate and reliable analytical results safely and efficiently
  • Conduct and validate test results and generate reports
Requisites
  • Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects
  • B. Sc / B. Tech degree in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy
  • Minimum of 3 years’ Technical / Operational experience in Hydrometallurgical processing plant
  • Must have successfully completed a graduate development programme in Metallurgy
  • Uranium processing experience will be an added advantage
  • Plant commissioning, ramp-up & optimization experience will be an added advantage
  • Project delivery and project management experience in the field of process development for mining projects
  • Code B or BE/ CE Driver’s License
