Rössing Uranium is recruiting a Metallurgist, to be based in Arandis, Namibia.
Description
- An exciting opportunity exists for a Metallurgist on a 2-year fixed term contract in the Processing Operations department
- Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy and CPC
- The primary purpose of this position is to optimize the production process and to review operation practices, methodology and technological application to achieve a safe, low cost and efficient operation
- This includes the investigation of process alternatives both technically and economically and to provide advice for metallurgical operations of the plant
Duties
- Maintains HSE standards
- Develops and maintains an effective team by participating in the development of graduate metallurgists and/or Improvement Laboratory operators
- Provides the team with adequate resources, supervises it, and constantly follows up on progress to ensure that it performs its work effectively
- Conducts routine process inspections and audits as set out in the Metallurgist Weekly Check Sheets
- Provides input into the operating metallurgical philosophy
- Designs metallurgical test work, including the planning, execution, and recommendations to the Superintendent Metallurgy
- Provides advice with regards to improvement of longer-term operational processes to achieve and exceed planned efficiency
- Calculates the production capabilities of processing equipment and suggests ways for optimizing equipment
- Prepares business cases for the implementation of new technology, chemicals, or process changes
- Identifies capital expenditure over a 5-year period and submits request to Superintendent Metallurgy
- Analyses, evaluates, and conducts research to reduce production costs and improve process efficiency
- Monitors the outcome of the process improvement
Requisites
- Minimum Requirements of the Role:
- Grade 12 Certificate with 20 points
- A recognized Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Engineering Degree/Bachelor of Technology in Chemical/Metallurgical/Mineral Processing (NQF Level 7/8)
- OR
- A recognized National Diploma in Chemical/ Metallurgical/ Mineral Processing (NQF Level 6)
- Bachelor / BEng / BTech degree: A minimum of five (5) years working experience as a Metallurgist/ Chemical Engineer in a hydrometallurgical processing plant environment & registration as professional engineer
- National Diploma: A minimum of Seven (7) years working experience as a Metallurgist/ Chemical Engineer in a hydrometallurgical processing plant processing environment
- A valid Code B drivers license
- A police certificate of conduct not older than six months is required
- A record will not automatically disqualify candidates
