NAMFISA is recruiting a Legal Advisor (m/f), to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Description
- The purpose of this position is to:
- Provide reliable, reliable, sound, timely and well-informed legal
advice and related legal services to the Authority and the Board
- Assist in the attainment of the strategic objectives of the Authority,
to contribute a legality assurance perspective on the Authority’s
supervisory and governance processes and building
understanding of legal issues, risks and obligations; and
- Manage litigation by and against the Authority and to draft and
review legislation, subordinate legislation and other supervisory
measures, the aim of which is to minimize financial and reputational
risk and legal liability
Duties
- Provision of legal advice and related legal services to the Authority
and the Board
- Managing of litigation by and against the Authority and provide legal
representation for the Authority at judicial tribunals or other forums
- Drafting and review of legislation, subordinate legislation and other
supervisory measures (Regulations, Government Notices, Standards, Directives and Circulars)
Influence policy formulation
- Review and draft contracts, communications with customers and
stakeholders, consumer education publications, press releases and
other documents of a legal nature
- Customer and stakeholder engagements
- Monitoring of the legislative and legal landscape for changes that may
have an impact on the Authority and the financial services sector and
provide pro-active legal direction
- Drafting and improvement of legal policies and procedures
- Manage financial and reputational risk and legal liability
- Assistance with financial management and other management
activities of the Division
Requisites
- Qualifications And Experience:
- LLB degree
- Admission as a Legal Practitioner of the High Court of Namibia, in
terms of the Legal Practitioners Act, 1995
- Member of the Law Society of Namibia
- 8 years’ experience post admission as a legal practitioner of the
High Court
- LLM in commercial, financial law or financial services will be a
distinct advantage
- Exposure to financial services sector will be an added advantage
- Knowledge:
- Legislation and subordinate legislation related to financial
services industries and financial products
- Financial services industries
- Financial products
- Business processes and policies of Authority
- Basic accounting, and analysis and interpretation of financial
statements
- Specialized legal software
- Advanced commercial, contract and administrative law
- Rules of litigation, mediation and arbitration, and procedures of
