Junior Team Leader Milk (m/f)

Duties

• To execute and supervise all operational activities regarding the herd in order to achieve the strategic initiatives and critical success factors of the departments
• Execute the cleaning program for the milk parlour and milk holding tanks to maintain good hygiene and good milk quality as per cleaning schedules and inspect regularly to maintain good hygiene
• Observe cows for early and accurate detection of coming on heat signs and verify against the insemination list verified against the heat detection book to determine which cows to inseminate
• Inspect daily the condition of cow houses regarding shading, availability of feed and water, structures, feeding lanes, manure lanes, manure pits, fans, lights, cow brushes and bedding in order to ensure cow comfort at all times
• Observe herd continuously to detect health problems, cows coming on heat or beginning to calf, or any discomfort and take immediate action when animals’ health is affected
• Co-ordinate the vaccination of cows/calves/heifers, by issuing the required vaccines and materials and ensuring that the correct procedure is followed when required
• Assist with stock and stores management according to SOP’s when required
• Responsible for daily accurate data capturing of all information and reporting on animal health and veterinary visits for the herd
• Responsible for all data capturing and reporting on Afikim in the absence of the Team Leaders and Herd Administrator
• Adhere and ensure adherence to the care and maintenance procedures and services schedules through regular inspection of check lists for all equipment
• Maintenance of Equipment

Requisites

• A Diploma in Agriculture specialized in animal science
• Minimum of 1-2 year experience working on a dairy farm or similar environment
• Alternatively, An equivalent of 8 years work experience in the Dairy Industry (without a formal qualification)
