Description
- Responsible for the design and execution of the infrastructure development plans and projects
Duties
- Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment:
- Design of Infrastructure:
- Responsible for the development of designs/proposals for new and refurbished buildings/infrastructure by doing the following:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with project objectives
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand requirements and expectations
- Has to successfully negotiate/liaise with local authorities and related stakeholders
- Ensure that the designs conform to Bank requirements and budget constraints with few comebacks/enquiries/remarks after submission
- Ensure that designs are completed within the time constraint
- Responsible for making cost effective decisions regarding outsourcing or internal execution
- Compiling Drawings and Documentation:
- Responsible for compiling working drawings and documentation with limited local authority referrals/comebacks, and ensuring that they are submitted on time most of the time and not delaying projects’ completion dates
- Project Management:
- External project management
- Responsible for the appointment of main contractors and sub-contractors, quality control, time management, progress payments and obtaining completion certificates
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to project timelines
- Establish effective communication channels within the project team and with stakeholders
- Provide regular updates on project progress, issues, and resolutions
- Prepare and present comprehensive reports on the status of branch overhaul projects
- Monitor the quality of work to ensure compliance with established standards
- Implement quality control processes to identify and address deviations
- Address concerns and maintain positive relationships
- Internal project management:
- Owns the communication to affected employees
- Understands the employee needs. (space, parking, data, digital)
- Formulates the infrastructural employee value proposition (temporary and final locations) and liaises this with affected, interested internal stakeholders
- Follows the governance process to ensure that the infrastructure value proposition is approved
- Owns the execution of internal moves of employees, ensures that necessary suppliers have been contracted to ensure smooth execution
- Progress Payments:
- Responsible for the authorisation of progress payments taking into consideration the progress with the construction of the building, the contract amount, progress payment guidelines and the scope of the prescribed mandate
- Ensure that there are limited instances where progress payments exceeded the value of the work completed and/or limited delays with payments
- Recording of Properties:
- Ensure that the Finance department is informed about serial numbers of new equipment installed
- Also assist them in coding equipment and furniture for reference purposes and to establish/ upgrade the asset register
- Ensure that delays with the submission of information or the attaching of bar codes are limited
- Execution of Assignments and Investigations:
- Responsible for ensuring that most of the assignments and investigations are completed on time and that they are correct with few comebacks or additional information requests
- Financial Management:
- Capital Budgeting:
- Responsible for timeously assisting branches in obtaining quotations/information in order to prepare branch capital budgets
- Ensure that the internal capital budget is submitted on time with limited comebacks and/or requests for additional information
- Operational Budgeting:
- Ensure that the operational budget is submitted on time with limited comebacks and/or requests for additional information
- Control over Capital Expenditure:
- Track project expenditures and report on budget status
- Develop and manage project budgets for each branch overhaul project
- Responsible for controlling the capital expenditure to be pro rata within the approved budgeted nett amount and request limited additional approval for unforeseen expenses
Control over Operational Expenditure:
- Ensure that there is limited over spending on the nett approved operational expenditure nett amount
- Allocation of Construction, Maintenance and Service Tenders
- Responsible for allocating annual maintenance, construction and service contracts as follows:
- Prepare documentation to call tenders for construction, maintenance and service
- Invite tenders or request renewal of existing contracts
- Submit recommendations to Finance department for evaluation
- Assign contracts to the successful tendered
- Ensure that there are limited delays or briefing/requirement/specification errors/omissions when the invitation of tenders occurs
- Customer Focus:
- Customer Service:
- Responsible for ensuring that clients, Bank departments, branches, contractors and property developers are handled in a professional manner providing accurate information according to requirements and that few valid complaints have been received
- Sales Focus
- Marketing:
- Identify selling opportunities and refer such opportunities and leads to the correct person, branch or department involved
- Personnel Management:
- Application and Utilisation of Personnel:
- Ensure that personnel are judiciously applied in appropriate posts and that the workload is cleared with the minimum mistakes and overtime
- Also ensure that personnel are correctly applied and fully utilised
- Personnel Training, Development and Facilitation
- Responsible for ensuring that formal and on-the-job training is effectively planned and conducted to ensure that sufficient expertise is available to deal with the work
- Responsible for ensuring that the mentorship in the department is effective to enable all personnel to develop to their full potential
- Evaluation of Personnel:
- Ensure that you have sufficient knowledge of personnel and their duties to do effective evaluation and also ensure that ongoing discussions take place
- Responsible for ensuring that evaluations are done on a regular basis according to the guidelines of the system
- Ensure that steps are taken to develop employees for performance improvement
- General:
- Must be prepared/willing to do any other reasonable and lawful instruction/task and it is normally carried out on time and correct
Requisites
- Experience/Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of the system and procedures
- Has adequate knowledge of construction methods, building products and techniques

- A minimum of 10 years experience with infrastructure projects is required, of which 5 years in the banking industry (branch retail space, ATM deployments, office fit outs) will be an advantage
- Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project management, or a related field
- 4 years degree minimum
- Proven experience as a Project Coordinator, preferably in infrastructure
- Strong organizational and planning skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
- Familiarity with banking operations and infrastructure projects is advantageous
