Heavy Duty Operator/Auger Operator

Description

• The job incumbent is responsible for operating assigned and other vehicles and machinery (auger truck with drill) independently and ensures that these are maintained in good working condition
• DUTY STATION: Grootfontein/Omaheke/Okahandja/Okakarara
• PATTERSON GRADE: B3

Duties

• Request, obtain and operate vehicles, machinery, tools, specialized equipment and instrumentation in an appropriate way
• Operate assigned vehicle and machinery as per manufacturer’s and CENORED instructions. (6x6 truck (Code CE), trailer and vehicle mounted hydraulic drill)
• Carry out daily/ routine operating and safety inspections of assigned vehicle and machinery
• Safely Collect/ load up to safe vehicle capacity and deliver/ unload materials/ apparatus/ machinery at specific locations
• Ensure that all the necessary safety precautions are complied with while materials are being loaded onto and off-loaded from vehicles and when machinery is operated
• Secure cargo during transit
• Verify load against shipping documents
• Carry out tasks independently, especially in respect of the maintenance of assigned machinery and assigned vehicles
• Drill holes for wooden poles with auger truck
• Report all problems on assigned electrical vehicles and/ or assigned machinery
• Maintain safety standards (loss control), environmental, good housekeeping and hygiene standards in all areas of responsibility by conducting regular checks and taking corrective action where necessary and/or reporting the incident to the supervisor
• Assist with the cleaning of electrical workshop
• Assist with the loading and unloading of materials received/delivered

Requisites

• Grade 10
• N2 / L2 electrical general (Added advantage)
• Code CE driver’s license with Professional Authority Permit. With Crane Operator/Auger Operator experience
• Three years’ experience with electricity utility or contractor
• Five years ‘experience with driver’s license CE and public driving permit (G.P.D)
• Five years practical experience in driving/operating heavy duty vehicles/machinery
• Required Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:
• Ability to communicate, read and write at respective levels in English
• Good machine operating and maintenance skills (vehicle mounted hydraulic crane and man hoist attachment)
• Good interpersonal skills
• Excellent driving skills
