Bank Windhoek is recruiting a Financial Reporting Specialist, to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Description
- This position is responsible for the preparation of the statutory reporting requirements within the Bank
Duties
- Risk and Compliance:
- Assists in implementing policies and controls for compliance with International Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards
- This includes ensuring that IFRS calculations are performed and all relevant entries are accounted for timeously
- Assists in implementing policies and controls for compliance to statutory and regulatory rules
- This includes compliance to Bank of Namibia requirements as well as ensuring that the relevant calculations are performed and accounted for timeously
- Review of gazettes and liaise with Bank of Namibia / compliance to ensure accurate reporting and compliance. Communicate any deviances noted to the regulator
- Perform all additional regulatory communications w.r.t. stress tests, audits, queries
- Continuous automation of all statutory returns to ensure timeous submission and accurate reporting. Automation will also ensure time spent on returns is reduced
- Assist in planning/reviewing of items to ensure that we maintain adequate capital as prescribed by the regulator
- Assist with any reporting to JSE
- Assists with the resolution of external and internal audit findings
- Ensure that the monthly, quarterly and bi-annual risk reporting for finance is done
- Consolidated Financial and Statutory Reporting:
- Prepare the statutory returns for Bank of Namibia on a monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual basis and ensure timeous submission of returns
- Ensure timeous submission of the quarterly, semi-annual and annual consolidated supervision returns
- Ensure that all queries on statutory returns and reports are promptly resolved
- Proactively investigate movements and liaise with other departments to resolve any queries promptly
- Assist other departments with Bank on Namibia queries to ensure accurate and prompt reporting
- Prepare the annual financial statements and tax calculations for the subsidiaries
- Maintain the accounting records for relevant subsidiaries
- Assist with the preparation and finalisation of the consolidated Bank Windhoek Annual Report
- Prepare Namfisa submissions for subsidiary and ensure timeous submission
- Assist with the calculation of IFRS accounting and preparing of the Management Accounts
- Attend all IFRS 9 committee meetings to provide feedback on bad debt movements
- Preparation of relevant monthly accounting reconciliations
- Continuous automation of relevant monthly accounting reconciliations to ensure timeous submission
- Update TM1 with the monthly TB and run consolidation for Group to complete their accounts
- Prepare and post the bi-annual consolidation journals on TM1
- Perform recons on PWC invoices and ensure that their invoices are correct and in line with the audit budget
- Report on any deviances
- Assist the Financial Reporting Manager with ad-hoc tasks
- Treasury:
- Ad-Hoc support: assist with treasury month-end to ensure accurate accounting records when the treasury manager is not available
- Liaise with External and Bank of Namibia auditors:
- Assists in coordinating and facilitating audits and information regarding external and Bank of Namibia audits and reviews
- Liaise with external auditors for all queries relating to the subsidiaries
- Liaise with all departments and assign responsibilities to each with deadlines to ensure timeous reporting to the external auditors
Requisites
- Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
- At least 5 years working experience in the financial accounting field
- Sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards
- Knowledge of the Accounting systems and Processing activities
- Sound knowledge of VAT, Income Tax and Withholding Tax
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Must have an aptitude for detail and critical analysis
- SAP experience will be an added advantage
- Computer literacy essential (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency in English
- Qualification:
