FNB Namibia is recruiting an Employee Relations Chairperson, to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Description
- To maintain the highest levels of confidentiality while ensuring compliance with the Industrial Relations Policy and Procedure Manual and due process in all proceedings involving individual cases
- To act fairly and impartially to all parties involved in disciplinary hearings
Duties
- Chair and manage the proceedings of disciplinary hearings and making sure the correct procedure is followed
- Act as an impartial presiding official during disciplinary proceedings for both the initiator and the employee and to advise on matters of process
- Give rulings on preliminary matters and points of order to settle disputes
- Arrange disciplinary proceedings at a convenient time and place
- Validate that proposed motions and amendments are relevant to a hearing
- Mediate disciplinary hearing to ensure that each party (who is entitled to speak) expresses their opinion or rationale without unnecessary interruptions and adjourn the hearing if it is unproductive or unable to continue
- Consider and analyse evidence presented at disciplinary hearings
- Manage any necessary documentation and record accurate minutes of disciplinary hearings. A typed record of the proceedings, which includes the finding and any sanction
- Provide all necessary disciplinary case records to the Employee Relations Manager/Consultant upon conclusion
- Determine sanctions in terms of the Industrial Relations Policy & Procedure Manual, the Labour Act (Act 11 of 2007) and other relevant legislation, and sound Labour Practice Principles
- Make recommendation to the Chief Human Capital Officer on appropriate sanctions upon conclusion of the disciplinary hearing
- Consider the merits of a matter referred where an employee admits guilt for Serious Offences (SO) as classified in the Industrial Relations Policy & Procedure Manual
- Make recommendation on a sanction and/or any such alternative outcome as deemed fair and necessary in the circumstances
Requisites
- Minimum Qualification:
- LLB degree or relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Industrial Relations
- Experience:
- 5 to 8 years of Labour Law and Practice experience
- Proven track record of experience in presiding over disciplinary hearings
- Excellent negotiation skills
