Welwitchia Hospital is recruiting a Cost & Management Accountant (m/f), to be based in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
Duties
- Develop and maintain the cost accounting system, documents, and records of the organization
- Design and/or improve cost management processes, and use the appropriate costing methodologies to recognize, determine, accumulate, and report costs of activities
- Work across departments to gather costing intelligence through interviews, reporting, and systems
- Work with the Financial Manager, the Group Chief Financial Officer, and the finance department to implement and apply cost accounting policies and procedures
- Liaise with supervisors/senior staff to ensure efficiency and best use of resources
- Develop trusted working relationships by regularly meeting with key stakeholders and sharing business intelligence
- Meet with colleagues across the organization to ensure a complete understanding of costing principles and the value of economies of scale
- Design and deliver cost presentations for both internal and external use
- Report on breakeven and constraint points for services
- Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements
- Provide management with reports that specify and compare factors that affect strategy, prices and profitability of products and/or services
- Perform ad hoc service/department cost analysis to support the operations
- Carry out financial analysis and investigation of costs to improve performance and support new opportunities
- Provide information to support strategic decisions and provide advice and guidance on the implications of business decisions
- Analyze and recommend costs and cost savings
- Analyze the data collected and log a detailed record of the results
- Analyze any changes in goods or services provided and determine the effect on the cost
- Analyze project costs and prepare regular variance reports comparing anticipated vs actual costs incurred
- Make estimates of new and proposed product costs
- Ensure that data quality is fit-for-purpose
- Prepare and complete internal cost audits
- Prepare, improve and maintain Activity Reports
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual KPI reports as part of the Activity Report
- Prepare and maintain departmental costs reports within the entity
- Assist in audits and general ledger preparation
- Conduct physical inventory spot checks and monitor the inventory throughout the organization
- Report on all areas of actual or potential cross-subsidy
- Compile cost information to be used in operating budget preparation
- Generate and report monthly valuation of inventory and ensure its accuracy
- Monitor and verify accurate inventory transactions
- Assist with monthly forecast and annual budget process
Requisites
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (essential)
- CIMA/CGMA/ACCA Qualification will be an added advantage
- Four (4) years of Cost Accounting work experience (essential)
- Sound understanding of accounting principles
- Solid cost systems background
- Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
- Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent report-writing, communication, and IT skills
- Proficiency using spreadsheets (Excel)
- Exposure to cost accounting, reporting and variance analysis
- The ability to work appropriately with highly confidential, business-critical information
