Ohorongo Cement is recruiting a Condition Monitoring Technician, to be based in Plant Sargberg, between Otavi and Tsumeb, Namibia.
Description
- Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, the position supports the ongoing effort to maximize equipment uptime through scheduled and unscheduled condition monitoring of all process plant equipment. Responsibilities include conducting routine checks, gathering, and analysing condition data, and recommending or executing proactive maintenance measures
- Key duties involve preventing unforeseen failures, mitigating secondary damages, and extending equipment life. The role includes general maintenance of BEUMER bucket elevators, apron feeders, and the mixing plant section, along with managing the condition monitoring team. Additionally, the position contributes to procedural reviews, risk assessments, and supports maintenance planning to ensure operational efficiency
Duties
- Perform routine condition monitoring tasks (e.g., laser alignment, balancing, vibration, and oil analysis) for rotating equipment using advanced tools
- Assist in lubrication oil sampling and recommend remedial actions based on analysis
- Independently manage condition monitoring activities for the assigned plant
- Conduct workshop and field balancing, and support plant artisans with tasks like laser alignment
- Collaborate with plant personnel to ensure timely correction of identified issues, reporting critical problems to the Maintenance Manager
- Participate in plant turnaround activities as needed
- Input vibration readings into computerized systems for trend analysis and diagnostics, recommending corrective actions
- Utilize CMMS systems (e.g., SAP) for equipment history, maintenance planning, and scheduling
- Engage in reliability improvement programs and root cause failure analysis for rotating equipment
- Enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations
Requisites
- Grade 12
- Formal condition monitoring training is essential
- Qualified Tradesperson (Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation) with at least 7 years working experience
- Supervisory experience
- Computer Literate. Knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system as well as MS Office
- Excellent ability to anticipate, analyze, diagnose, and resolve problems
- Good knowledge of machinery condition monitoring technologies and maintenance philosophies is desirable
- Very accurate and structural work
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Valid National Driver’s License
