B2Gold is recruiting a Blasting Assistant (m/f), to be based in Otjiwarongo, Namibia.
Description
  • To support the Blaster in all open pit blasting related activities on the mine in accordance with mine plan priorities and schedules
Duties
  • Open-Pit Blasting Operations:
  • Reading and interpretation of blast and tie-up plans
  • Connect the blasting cables to the electronic delay detonators
  • Prepare and position primers as required for blasting
  • Control and handle Mobile Manufacturing Unit charging hose and fill blast hole with the prescribed amount of explosive charge and stemming
  • Measure the height of the explosive charge in the hole to ensure that the correct amount of explosive has been pumped down the hole
  • Tagging of charged holes and connect detonators in accordance with laid out instructions
  • Stem blast holes as specified on the blast plan
  • Demarcation of mining faces, drill sites and blasting sites as per standard operating procedure
  • Transportation of flagmen and deliverance of barricading tools
  • Open Pit Blasting Support:
  • Ensure all blasting related work is done safely and in accordance with the company procedures as well as explosives regulations
  • Compile the shift resource requirements
  • Support in the safeguarding of persons against the significant hazards associated with the use of explosives
  • Assist in picking up the non-live explosives after the blast
  • Assist to load and off load explosives to charging and storage areas
  • Assist in safe receipt, storage, issuing and transportation of explosives
  • Support in carrying out and maintaining of good housekeeping standards within and outside of the magazine
  • Health, Safety and Environment:
  • Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in safety and/or toolbox meetings
  • Maintain a safe working environment, and keep the assigned work area clean and tidy
  • Develop and implement good housekeeping principles and practices
Requisites
  • Minimum Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience open-pit mining blasting
  • Valid Code B driver’s license
