Artisan: Fitter and Turner (m/f)

Description

• To safely perform mechanical fitting tasks in accordance with set standards, procedures and specifications, to achieve optimum equipment availability and process efficiency objectives

Duties

• Perform skilled technical work within the parameters of the trade in accordance with set standards, procedures and specifications, in area of responsibility
• Report on work orders/requests, possible causes, estimated life span of components/parts, spares used, time taken and recommendations to improve efficiency
• Schedule maintenance activities
• Check that the required parts, tools and special tools are available during services and repairs as planned, to ensure that repairs are conducted in the shortest possible time
• Conduct planned and unplanned maintenance tasks within time limits and according to (Original Equipment Manufacturer) OEM/owner specifications or Original Parts Manufacture (OPM)
• Provide advice and guidance on the effective repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery
• Perform basic welding tasks and gas cutting for maintenance
• Perform ongoing diagnoses and fault-finding/run inspections on all equipment/structures and machinery in area of responsibility
• Investigate, maintain, adjust, repair faults and overhaul equipment and machinery on site, in order to maximize the availability of equipment and machinery, and ensure that the standard is maintained as per related schedules
• Initiate innovative ideas to enhance efficiency with the area of work
• Inform the supervisor on parts to be ordered timely to avoid delays
• Complete work orders and submit to the supervisor to close the job order

Requisites

• Grade 12, with a Recognized N3 Trade Diploma/Certificate in Fitting and Turning
• 3 years post apprenticeship experience as a Fitter and Turner in a maintenance environment
• Line boring experience is an added advantage
• Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License
