Swakop Uranium is recruiting a Senior Officer: Employee Relations, to be based in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Description
- To implement and maintain sound employee relations practices to develop mutual trust, co-operation and the resolution of conflict between the Company and its stakeholders
Duties
- Analyse the internal and external labour climate through daily interaction with related stakeholders and identify potential problem areas, recommend and implement improvements to systems, procedures and practices
- Provide advice and assistance to line managers and employees on the application of the Company procedures
- Monitor formal and informal communication channels, identifying bottleneck / obstacles and recommending improvements for implementation to improve communication
- Design and present training courses to facilitate the understanding and competencies required for achieving the Company's Employee Relations Policy objectives
- Advise line managers on the application and interpretation of the disciplinary procedures, precedent cases and the Labour Act
- Investigate disciplinary cases, identify offences in terms of Company procedures and ensure that the prerequisite documents are properly completed
- Attend disciplinary hearings to ensure that disciplinary action and procedures are consistently applied
- Facilitate the handling and orderly settlement of grievances at the lowest possible level in accordance with the Company’s grievance regulation
- Prepare Company arguments for disputes and Conciliation or Arbitration cases
- Review cases and make recommendation to management
- Represent Company at Conciliation and Arbitration cases and provide feedback / reports as and when required
- Guide and advise the Medical Incapacity Committee to ensure fairness during the proceedings as per the company procedures
Requisites
- Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects
- Degree in Human Resources Management or related fields
- 5 years’ experience in an employee relations environment of which 2 years should be in a supervisory role
- Sound knowledge of the Namibian Labour Act and application thereof
- Proven record of dealing with conciliation and arbitration matters
- Experience in dealing with union representatives and union matters
- Good report writing and minute taking skills
- Able to work in a multinational environment
- Code B or BE Driver’s License
