Engineer: Network Operations and Control

Description

• The primary role of the Engineer: Network Operations and Control is to effectively and efficiently manage, coordinate and control the area distribution network to ensure safety of operators, maximise availability of the network, ensure continuity of supply, mitigate interruption of supply and optimise equipment operation
• Secondary role is to perform engineering on-and offsite in functional areas of protection, SCADA, communication, and load control systems

• Manage and monitor System Availability & Network Performance
• Manage and execute SCADA System utilization and configuration
• Manage Load Control and Demand Side Management (DSM) System Ensure NESC and SHE Compliance
• Operational Due Diligence and Administration and Reporting
• Professional Development & Growth People and Performance Management
• Develop Asset Maintenance Strategy
• Crafting maintenance plans and planning
• Manage Asset maintenance scheduling
• Manage maintenance work planning coordination with Operations & Engineering

Requisites

• BSc, B-Tech or B Eng in Electrical Engineering (Power) or equivalent as recognized by the Namibian Qualification Authority
• NQF level 7/8
• Preferred Qualification:
• Bachelor’s degree (Electrical) NQF Level 7 or 8
• Specific Knowledge:
• Technical knowledge of MV & LV maintenance practices and procedures
• Testing equipment & procedures
• Asset Life Cycle Processes
• Asset management on SAP business system
• General understanding of CENORED MV distribution stations
• General understanding of NamPower network layout
• Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
• Demand Side Management (DSM)
• Budget and cost control procedures
• National Electricity Safety Code
• National Regulated Standards
• Health and Safety Regulations
• Quality of Supply & Service Standards
• Basic Namibian Labour Act
• Basic Electricity Act and Regulations
• CENORED policies, procedures and business processes Local Authorities Act
• Maintenance Management Systems
• Maintenance Management Standards (ISO, etc.)
• Specific Skills:
• Familiar with the operation of various switchgear types
• Interpreting and analyzing network events
• Network abnormality identification and logging
• Situation analysis & problem solving
• Interpret network schematic drawings
• Configuration, setup and management of SCADA system
• Budget and cost control
• Resource planning, scheduling & control
• Dependable and conscientious
• Microsoft Excel and Outlook
• Administration, data processing & document control
• Professional Registration:
• Professional Registration (Pr. Eng/ Inc. Eng) with Engineering Council of Namibia
• Experience:
• MV and LV distribution systems: Minimum five (5) years
• Control Centre environment: five (5) years
• SCADA system experience: five (5) years
• Maintenance Planning experience
• Network simulation software
• Advanced computer literacy
• Licenses Required:
• Code BE Driver License
• Special Working Conditions
• Standby Duties
• High stress environment
• Irregular working hours to attend ad hoc and unplanned network events
• Available for duty in crisis or emergency
• Exposure to high-risk areas
• Field duties: SCADA and Protection Schemes integrations/installations
