Nampower is recruiting a Manager: Innovation, Applied Research & Development, to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Description
- This incumbent is responsible for managing the innovative processes of NamPower, including applied Research and Development (R&D)
- Leading and co-ordinating applied Research and Development (R&D) activities aligned to the company Business Plan
- In collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, the incumbent is responsible to conduct applied Research and Development (R&D) activities to ensure they contribute to the business development and innovation agenda of the company to improve sustainability of company technical operations
Duties
- Investigating possible projects and determining where and how funding can be sourced for feasibility studies and assessments
- Controlling and monitoring the overall project budgets during the feasibility and implementation phases
- Prudently managing the section budget resources and keeping it within provided budget parameters
- Assessing the scope of applied research projects and ensures they are on time and within budget
- Facilitating and maintaining effective work relations between NamPower and other partners both local and international
- Representing NamPower at relevant national events such as exhibitions and demonstrations, including international research conferences and seminars or similar forums, to network and gain external contacts
- Negotiating agreements with external institutions and agencies to advance applied R&D projects
- Conducting applied research and assess current and future customer needs
- Evaluating services and products offered by the Company to ensure they are still functional and determining viability of new technologies
- Investigating new ways to use electricity more efficiently and developing new techniques to optimise efficiency
- Investigating new digital electrical services and technologies and analysing new trends within the industry to inform decision making in the company
- In collaboration with R&D institutions, evaluating technology through activities such as demonstrations, trials, lab tests and user tests to determine its suitability and effectiveness
- Investigating best ways to support rural electrification, local authorities, and regional distributors in their energy plans for rural areas
- Exploring new solutions and smart management tools that will make electrical systems more flexible and adaptable
- Investigating efficient coexistence of traditional generating methods with the development of renewables
- Responsible for effective project management within the Section by identifying amongst others project milestones, costs etc
- Ensuring effective communication of project progress and reports to relevant stakeholders
- Leading the section in such a manner as to foster innovation and technological excellence
- Ensuring that regular meetings with all stakeholders are taking place to enhance communication and information sharing
- Adhering to all laid down security and SHEW related regulations and rules
Requisites
- Relevant Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (NQF 9)
- Registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia (ECN)
- A valid Code B driving license
- A PhD in an engineering-related field a will be an added advantage
- Eight (8) years experience in the Applied Research and Development of the energy-related industry and associated areas of which a minimum of five (5) years should be at a Supervisory/Managerial level
- Demonstrated experience in conducting engineering research
