Rössing Uranium is recruiting a FTC Geologist: Exploration, to be based in Arandis, Namibia.
Description
- A vacancy exists for a Geologist: Exploration within the Business Development. Reporting to the Principal Exploration Geologist
- The primary responsibility of this role is to supervise and coordinate exploration drilling and sampling programs, data management, managing contractors, and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure project targets are met
- The overall purpose is to support initiatives for Life-of-Mine extension through exploration and continuous improvement initiatives within the Business Development department
Duties
- Maintaining Health, Safety & Environmental standards
- Supervise and coordinate all contractors involved in the exploration project to ensure project is completed on time and to set standards
- Plan and coordinate work activities of direct and indirect reports by allocating tasks, setting time and quality expectations, checking the quality of the team’s workmanship and adherence to standards of all work
- Structural and lithological mapping
- Lithological logging of RC drill chippings, lithological, structural and geotechnical logging of diamond drill core
- Supervise RC and diamond core resource sampling processes, and oversee collection of geotechnical diamond drill core samples
- Ensure QAQC procedures are correctly followed for all data collection and sampling processes
- Plan and coordinate sampling and test work for mineralogical, metallurgical, SG, hydrogeological, hydrology, other studies
- Responsible for updating the Exploration project drilling acQuire database and quality control to ensure data integrity
- Monitors and reviews expenditure monthly and reports on cost variances
- Continuously examining the appropriateness of existing systems and practices against the possibility of improved efficiency, and implementing changes as required
Requisites
- Grade 12 certificate
- A recognized Bachelor of Science (Hons.) or B-Tech with Honors in Geology NQF Level 8
- A minimum of five (5) year working experience in a hard rock exploration environment as an Exploration Geologist and should include exploration
- drilling supervision and geological mapping
- A Postgraduate qualification in Geology, Geostatistics or Geotechnical Engineering would be an added advantage
- Experience as a Geologist in an open-pit geology environment as a Grade Control Geologist, Resource Geologist, Geotechnical Geologist, or related role would be an added advantage
- A valid Code B Driver’s Licence
- A Police certificate of conduct not older than six months is required. A record will not automatically disqualify candidates
- Required competencies and skills:
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Package, SAP)
- Communication skills
- Problem solving and designing skills
- Decision making skills
- Functional knowledge of mining and GIS software packages such as MineSight, MapInfo, or similar
- Functional knowledge of geological database software such as acQuire or similar
