Wilderness is recruiting an Environmental Manager, to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Description
- Reporting directly to the MD. The Environmental Manager is responsible for ensuring the compliance of Group Environmental Standards, Conservation Strategy and Health and Safety in Wilderness Namibia
Duties
- Implement, monitor, contribute and coordinate the Wilderness Group Environmental Standards (GEMS) and Conservation strategy in Namibia
- Responsible for the Environmental Management Systems in each camp including monthly reporting and conducting twice yearly inspections as per standards manual
- Monitor the Promotion of an environmental culture within Wilderness
- Revise and contribute to any new and revisions to existing standards continually
- Ensure that the Environmental and Conservation standards are adhered to in each camp
- Manage and coordinate camp improvements following EMS assessments – to work directly with Group Environmental Coordinator, Operations Manager and Maintenance Managers
- Continue to align the Group Environmental standards to the Wilderness brand and values
- Act as lead for all environmental projects as required, participate during all phases of project delivery, and be seen as a supportive function to the camps and ensure effective hands-on implementation
- Coordinate Health and Safety compliance in camp
- Facilitate full EIA for any new developments in company
- Keep company updated on all recent developments in water conservation, energy conservation, waste management and sewage management methods. Ensure Camps follow strict procedures concerning this
- Ensure that company remains abreast of all environmental and conservational developments in Namibia and participate in local workshops and forums as well involvement with all levels of partnership including government, private, NGO, educational, international and individual
- Represent the company in all Conservation orientated meetings, Ministry-affiliated environmental schemes, awards and programmes as required
- Submit annual reports to Group Impact Manager on the environmental activities of Wilderness Namibia
- Be involved in new camp constructions and refurbishments to ensure GEMS are carried out correctly and practically
- Continually assist in building local partnerships
- Assist and guide in the development, training and execution of conservation and environmental projects
- Advise and guide on monthly environmental feedback from all the camps
- Advise Camp Managers and TSM`s on Hygiene maintenance standards in camps to recognized international levels
Requisites
- Tertiary qualification in the related field will be an advantage
- 5 years’ experience in a similar role
- Proficient in professional spoken English, Afrikaans will be an added advantage
- Strong work ethic with sober habits
- Creative and divergent thinker
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results under deadlines
- Team player
- Valid drivers’ license
