Rössing Uranium is recruiting a Geologist (Resource Evaluation), to be based in Arandis, Namibia.
Description
- A vacancy exists for a Geologist in the Mining Operations department, reporting to the Superintendent Resources Evaluation
- You will be responsible for ensuring accurate guidance in terms of the physical areas to mine ore, meeting the requirements in terms of quality ore, planning and executing field programs to collect and validate geological data that contribute to greater ore body knowledge of the existing deposit
Duties
- Actively participating in creating a healthy and safe working environment, e.g., by participating in HSE meetings, talks, interactions, and inspections
- Ensuring that Geology and Geotechnical support team members and contractors adhere to the OBK/ Mining Operations department’s annual safety objectives and plan
- Coordinating work activities of indirect reports by checking the quality of the team’s workmanship and adhering to standards of all work
- Supervising and guiding the blast hole sampling process by ensuring the correct placing of composite tapes, boards, and lithological logging of blasthole cones
- Performing data analysis to ensure precision and accuracy errors from sampling and laboratory analyses are maintained within acceptable limits
- Identifying low resource confidence areas in the reserve model that can be RC drilled on the active mining benches
- Performing data analysis on QAQC data to ensure precision and accuracy errors from sampling and laboratory analyses are maintained within acceptable limits
- Providing resource estimation geologists with results from the Reverse Circulation and diamond Drilling
- Inspecting truck scanners by ensuring correct positioning, proper working conditions, and accurate functioning of truck scanners
- Assisting the IT analyst with integrating geoscientific systems with other systems within the organization
- Providing input in the annual capital and operational cost budget/forecast to management as and when required
- Continuously examining the appropriateness of existing systems and practices against the possibility of improved efficiency, and implementing changes as required
Requisites
- Grade 12 with a recognized Bachelor of Science (Hons.) OR B-Tech with Honors in Geology on NQF Level 8
- Postgraduate qualification in Geology is desirable
- A minimum of five (5) years working experience in a geological environment of which 3 years should be in an open-pit geology environment as a Grade Control or Resource Geologist or related role
- A valid Code B Drivers License
- A Police certificate of conduct not older than six months is required. A record will not automatically disqualify candidates
- Required skills:
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office Package, SAP)
- Supervisory skills
- Problem-solving and designing skills; creating new systems or procedures and originating process or equipment design, devising standardized tests for people or systems
- Sound judgment, reasoning, and decision-making skills
- Functional knowledge of mining software packages such as MineSight or similar
- Knowledge of geological database software such as acQuire or similar
