Description
- A vacancy exists for an Engineer Mining: Drill & Blasting within the Mining Department
- Reporting to the Superintendent: Mining Operations
- This role is primarily responsible for the effective and efficient execution and conformance to long, medium, and short-term Mine plan
- Provide timely, safe, and efficient ore supply services, drill and blast, load and haul, dispatching engineering services to the mining operations to achieve mine production targets and continuous improvement in a cost-effective manner
Duties
- Maintaining Health, Safety & Environmental standards
- Align and forecast drill and blast schedules (medium- and short-term) with the long-term plan to ensure strategic alignment and planning
- Compile and analyse drill and blast performance, providing comprehensive scorecard reporting for evaluation and improvement
- Provide input to synchronize the planned maintenance schedule with the drill and blast schedule, optimizing operational efficiency
- Offer technical support to the drill and blast team, ensuring smooth operations and addressing technical challenges
- Ensure adherence of drill and blast processes to geotechnical and production constraints, focusing on safe high walls, foot walls, and optimal fragmentation
- Optimize fragmentation across the entire comminution chain, monitoring blasts and analysing post-blast outcomes for continuous improvement
- Administer reporting systems to optimize equipment maintenance and utilization, enhancing overall operational performance
- Facilitate alignment of other stakeholders with drill and blast activities, promoting collaboration and coordination across the organization
- Conduct blast tie-up, assessments, and analysis to assess blast effectiveness and make necessary adjustments for improvement
- Identify and investigate potential risks to the drill and blast schedules/plan, providing advisory insights for proactive risk mitigation and management
Requisites
- Grade 12 certificate with 20 points
- A recognized Bachelor’s/ B-Tech Degree in Mining Engineering (NQF Level 7/8)
- National Diploma in recognized Bachelor’s/ B-Tech Degree in Mining Engineering (NQF Level 6)
- Open Cast Blasting Ticket
- Degree Holders: A minimum of five (5) years’ mining engineering experience in an open pit environment
- Diploma Holders: A minimum of seven (7) years’ mining engineering experience in an open pit environment
- A valid Code BE (Code 08) Driver’s Licence
- Required Competencies and Skills:
- Computer literacy (Mine Sight, Vulcan, Data mine, Micro mine and Gemcom as well as Mine Optimization software e.g. Whittle and COMET)
