SAP Support Consultant

Description

• The SAP Support Consultant will be responsible for supporting the existing SAP suite of applications and the configuration and implementation of additional modules and functionality. The incumbent will also be required to review new systems of use to the organization that could be integrated with SAP

Duties

Customer Service

• Ensure that customer requirements are clearly understood by arranging customer meetings and continuous interaction with the SAP users

Systems and User Needs Analysis

• Analyse business processes within the operational area and improve on efficiency of processes where possible Develop procedural frameworks
• Regularly confirm that compliance to systems procedures is maintained and address identified incidents of non-compliance with relevant users
• Perform regular user needs analysis and analyses of operational business systems/applications. Includes observations from colleagues as well as management plans
• Translates needs analysis into systems requirements
• Research and investigate workable solutions (upgrades, alternative systems, add-ons, supplementary systems, etc.) and makes recommendations to supervisor and relevant business units

Controls Analysis

• Determine the critical points within the system and its integrated processes that will pose threats to control and contamination of system(s) and its data
• Identify methods on how to maintain close control over these points, e.g., via reports and monitoring programs, developing these in conjunction with a programmer if required
• Provide guidance to users on the appropriate use of control steps
• Monitor the critical points on the system and frequently scrutinise the various reports. Wherever errors are revealed, the incumbent will take immediate remedial action and ensures that the root cause of the problem is addressed

Systems Design and Customisation

• From the analyses performed on an ongoing basis, the incumbent designs technical data flow plans which detail requirements including existing package applications
• Ensure input is obtained from all relevant stakeholders on approved design indicating current system and proposed system changes, upgrades, and developments
• From ongoing analysis of usage pattern of operational systems, the incumbent will be required to assess the new functionality and implement new requirements in existing systems

Systems User Support/Application support

• Apply business process knowledge to configure the SAP system
• Evaluate business needs and customize SAP to perform specific business processes as required
• Provide technical support
• The incumbent will perform comprehensive analysis, evaluation, and resolution of all logged problems/challenges/issues
• Monitor user competence and identifies deficiencies, suggesting interventions where appropriate
• The SAP support consultant will be responsible for responding to emerging problem areas and searches for causes on the system
• Liaise with the SAP Lead on complex or recurring problems and ensures enduring solutions
• Formulate effective conversion strategies to enable transfer of data from other data sources to operating applications
• Responsible for mapping of data from other data sources to operating applications, to ensure optimal data correlations
• Prepares data and reconciles once converted to new system
• Liaises with users on data accuracy and completeness and ensures optimal data integrity
• Assists users in systematic approaches to data management and controls and institutes rules and procedures that enable data quality assurance
• Responsible for managing projects assigned by supervisor from time to time
• He/she researches tasks thoroughly and where possible, liaises with other organizations that are using such add-ons or enhancements
• Evaluates pros and cons of SAP system enhancements and presents findings with specific recommendations
• Involves users in need identification and canvassing of ideas and suggestions, where necessary
• Implement, once approved, in accordance with plans and supplier support

Systems Updates, Upgrades and Patches

• The incumbent liaises with supervisor on updates, patches and upgrades
• Performs unit testing of patches and updates applied on the system and follows through to determine impact on application functionality
• Takes any corrective action required [additional configuration, alternative transactions etc, to ensure that functionality remains intact
• During upgrades he/she aligns with users to minimize impact and provides support where necessary

Requisites

• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
• Experience working in data-driven and analytical organization

• Ability to effectively manage and work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team environment
• Bank product and operational experience required
• Knowledge and understanding of a complex applications and technology infrastructure
• Knowledge and understanding of incident management protocols and procedures
• Broad knowledge and understanding of a complex applications and technology infrastructure
• Excellent working knowledge and experience of SAP products and functionality
• Experience of working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• A Bachelor’s degree in business computing or a BSc degree or any relevant qualification
• SAP Certification
• A minimum of 5 years in systems analysis
