Rössing Uranium is recruiting a Foreman: Processing Operations - Tailings Dam, to be based in Swakopmund, Namibia.

- A vacancy exists for Foreman processing operations in the Tailings Dam section on a 12 months fixed-term contract within the processing operations department reporting to the Superintendent Tailings Dam and Water Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all work activities within a production environment are appropriately coordinated, delegated, controlled and executed according to the RUL policies, procedures and standard work instructions
Duties
- Key Performance Areas:
- Maintaining HSE standards
- Carrying out regular inspections of plant, machinery and overland conveyor, i.e. safety switches, trip wires, water baths and showers, process vessels, pumps, motors, gear drives, pipes, conveyor belts, switchgear, valves, instrumentation gauges, etc.
- Ensuring optimum utilization of plant equipment and people by planning and scheduling to meet deposition targets on a daily basis according to the five-year deposition plan
- Ensuring that Operators conduct equipment inspections in their relevant areas, report any deviations promptly, and log them in the relevant shift reports
- Ensuring that operators carry out minor maintenance, e.g. unblocking of pipes, tightening of bolts on leaking flanges on systems pipes
- Liaising closely with Water Management, Recovery, Extraction and Reduction Foremen, Mining Operations and Mine Maintenance Foremen
- Planning, directing and co-ordinating paddock development (construction of paddy walls, pool arms) and other infrastructure
- Ensuring that wall failures, overtopping/backwash incidents due to full open ends and excessive seepage are eliminated
- Liaising with Civil Engineer, Metallurgists and External consultants on deposition plan and provides input into plan development
- Monitoring and driving process efficiencies and cost-effective use of major equipment of the Tailings Dam.
- Ensuring that all equipment and machinery maintenance are well-planned and carried out within deadlines and budgets and according to Company policies
Requisites
- Grade 12 certificate with a minimum 20 points and at least an E symbol in English with Maths and Science
- A National Diploma or other tertiary qualification in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering, or Science degree in Physics and Chemistry, plus three (3) years’ experience in metallurgical processing plant of which two (2) years should have been in a supervisory capacity would be an added advantage
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in heavy earthmoving equipment (HME) operations of which three (3) years should have been as a Sectional Operator or supervisory capacity
- A valid Code B driver’s licence
- Required Competencies and Skills:
- A good understanding of HSE systems
- Computer literacy
- Good supervisory skills
- A good understanding of principles of mineral processing and
metallurgical processes
- High level of technical problem-solving capability
- A good understanding of the concepts systems thinking and operational efficiency
- High level of proficiency with MS applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point), SAP
- Understanding of mechanical components of the plant
